Hello again! I’m back and refreshed and ready to take on the world. I spent a couple of weeks at my parents’ house with the kids. It was wonderful and relaxing and we had a great time.
Sadly, most of my garden is done. I spent this morning clearing out spent plants in preparation for fall planting. Too much rain, not enough weeding, and no tender loving care for two weeks was enough to finish off the melons and corn. The zucchini died of white, powdery something on the leaves a while back, and my peas died early on. Basically what’s left are my broccoli plants (which are flowering and will come back in the fall), and my peppers. My tomatoes are still going strong, too. And I was able to harvest several butternut squash from the dead vines. Not bad for a first real garden.
This will be my last big harvest though. Just some tomatoes and maybe a pepper left. I’m terribly pleased though. I have a pile of compost that’s just waiting to be added to my dirt, and a bunch of seeds ready to go. Spinach, kale, lettuce, and carrots will feature in my fall garden, along with the broccoli.
It’s good to be home again.
