GIVEAWAYS!!! Comment to win!
I’m enjoying the giveaway, it’s exciting. I may do more of them…
Good morning all! I’m up early after having vivid dreams about violent acts thanks to the book I had to read for school. Yay. Anyway… I’m a quarter of the way through The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Self-Sufficient Living, and I’m adoring it. It’s a call to arms. The author, Jerome Belanger, is realistic in saying that it’s impossible in today’s world to be totally self-sufficient, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing what you can. He acknowledges that there are all levels of self-sufficiency and that not everyone wants to move to a farm and raise their own beef. Some people want to stay in urban areas and that’s fine, it’s possible no matter where you are to be at least a little self-sufficient. He discusses the different types of living, like homesteading, voluntary simplicity, and frugality, and explains how each fits into the self-sufficient ideal even if they by themselves don’t necessarily subscribe to it. It’s wonderful and inclusive and, as I said, a call to arms. Self-sufficiency is about saving the planet. Period. And he explains why. It’s inspiring and I love it. He’s very encouraging.
Yes, I tend to love Idiot’s Guides and the Dummies books. I read them cover to cover because you never know when there will be an interesting tidbit or something new. They are chock full of great ideas from the introductory to the advanced, and tend to be very encouraging and can-do. I’m a sucker for an upbeat book that explains things. They’re not condescending in any way (like you might think from the titles – Idiot’s and Dummies) and I haven’t read one yet that didn’t give me new ideas. They are written by experts in the field and checked out by technical experts for correctness. Love them!
Did he cover or mention the tiny house movement?
Not yet but I haven’t gotten to the section on housing. I am literally on chapter 7. I’m just enjoying it so much that I wanted to recommend it.
